About Us

Heritage Threads, Modern Vision

Thaan is a lifestyle brand and a fabric archive that establishes the vast textile culture of India and brings its influence to the world.

We tailor modern fashion-forward ready-to-wear designs in hand-loomed fabrics that are handwoven in the ancient city of Banaras.

Our Story

Thaan carries forward a legacy of over a century and four generations, along with a community of more than 10,000 skilled artisans at its core.

These artisans have been a part of our community since our inception and are helping us redefine a craft that has sustained for centuries.

Our Approach

At Thaan, we are curating a new design language that bridges the traditional and contemporary through original design and fine craftsmanship.

By recontextualizing the way the world views traditional Baranasi weaves, we aim to showcase and support this community of endangered craftsmen.

We use traditionally made textiles for a new take on everyday wardrobe staples.

Our Process

Our collaborative design model allows us to work with innovative designers who are masters of their craft.

Contemporary silhouettes and modern wardrobe staples, all originating from the looms of Banaras, form our repertoire of product offerings.

The loom is our canvas, and the karigar, our artist–weaving new threads in the tapestry of artistry that is Banaras.
